Summary
The 50mm f/1.5 II VM ASPH Nokton Vintage MC Lens in Silver is a classic standard prime from  released as one of six options for  users. This version features multicoated optics which deliver pleasing natural colours together with high contrast and high resolution images. A bright aperture (referenced by ‘Nokton’) allows users to gather light even in the dimmest conditions, making this suitable for subjects like naturally lit portraits, street scenes and general photography where light may be scarce. The aperture also provides users with the opportunity to make images with a fine focal plane, isolating subjects from a creamy smooth background. Background blur is rendered by Voigtlander’s decision to include a 12-bladed diaphragm, ideal for silky smooth bokeh.

Voigtlander Lens Coatings and Design Variations
Voigtlander M system lenses are designed with two different optical coatings, which are referred to as ‘SC’ and ‘MC’. This stands for single coat and multi coating. With the case of the mark II 50mm f/1.5 VM it also happens to be available in three exterior colour styles, black, silver and nickel finish. This gives us six options to choose from depending on which type of images and movies we tend to enjoy making combined with which style of lens barrel suits our camera.
In general terms single coat may be preferable for monochrome or black and white images. Mid tones are the focus for single coated optics, with subtle graduated tones and slightly less contrast which they produce. This gives the photographer a more neutral starting point for post processing, or can be simply enjoyed for the unique style of image they produce.
Conversely multicoated lenses render beautiful rich natural colours, which some users find favours their colour work. Contrast levels are slightly higher providing more hues as we might find on certain film types.
