Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G Lens Summary
The Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G Lens is designed around a new formula to provide photographers and videographers with a high quality, extremely compact and lightweight standard prime option. Not only does this lens incorporate two aspherical and one ED glass element for outstanding results, but also includes two fast linear focus motors. The optics render pleasing results for video and stills with smooth bokeh well suited to portraits resulting in corner to corner high resolution, afforded by the nine elements arranged into nine groups.
High speed AF from the dual motors makes the most of the latest phase-detect system found in any  as well as being virtually silent as required by video creators.
Users of all levels will appreciate the high quality construction combined with low weight of the Sony 50mm f/2.5 G Lens. There is an air of premium quality thanks to a metal casing with engraved markings, as well as including a dedicated aperture ring and focus hold button as found on many larger . Another benefit of the 50mm f/2.5 G is that it is one in a trio of lenses designed with universal compatibility, including a shared thread size to accept similar lens filters. The other two in the range are the wide angle  and alternative standard width  of similar size and weight. The recently announced  weighs more than all three of these combined, demonstrating a feat of optical engineering achieved by Sony with these compact models.
Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G Lens in More Detail
Incredibly sharp results from optics with two aspherical elements and one ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element. These deliver high resolution detail and suppress colour fringing in all areas of the image. Corner to corner resolution and beautiful bokeh combine to make the SEL50F25G an all round compact, lightweight full frame lens for cityscapes, landscapes and videography, as well as being suitable for portraits.
A 7-blade circular aperture creates smooth rounded background bokeh defocus effects with a large f/2.5 aperture. This also allows the 50mm f/2.5 G to work extremely well in low light situations whether capturing videos or stills.
Never miss a shot with two linear motors delivering fast, precise AF with excellent tracking capabilities. Subject tracking can be maintained even if the subject changes motion quickly, making the lens ideal for situations like snap shooting.
Sony has designed this new 50mm lens with high quality aluminium for the exterior and hood, for a sophisticated look, as well as improving strength and durability. The iris ring indices, focal length markings and Sony logo on the hood are engraved giving a finish with a sophisticated feel.
Videographers also benefit from lightning quick AF together with near silent shooting for intuitive operability in a compact design.
