Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports Lens For Sony E in More Detail
Superb optical performance
The SIGMA 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG DN | Sports lens delivers characteristically high optical quality, which is capable of meeting the demands of professional fast-action photographers and film-makers. The optical design is constructed with 27 elements arranged in 19 groups.
The formula includes 2 FLD and 3 SLD high performance glass elements, designed to help correct chromatic aberration, a common optical issue often visible in ultra-telephoto lenses. The super telephoto lens is capable of delivering edge-to-edge sharpness across the entire zoom range and throughout the aperture range.
You can shoot close-ups with a short minimum focusing distance of 45cm at the wide end of the zoom, while at 200mm the lens offers a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.4. This allows the Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports to be used for detailed macro-style shots, adding to its overall versatility.
Ultra-fast all-new AF motor
This is the first Sigma lens to include a newly developed High-response Linear Actuator motor (HLA), which is a high-output AF motor with advanced electronic control that delivers very quiet autofocus performance with exceptional speed and precision.
The new AF motor also provides high focus-following performance, which is important for action photographers where the perfect shot is fleeting and is fully compatible with Sony camera AF systems including subject detection and tracking.
Best ever Optical Stabiliser
The lens comes with a built-in Optical Stabiliser function (OS), which employs Sigma’s newly developed OS2algorithm. This improves image stabilisation performance significantly, for up to 7-stops of shake compensation at the wide end of the zoom range and a 6-stop advantage at the telephoto end. This allows you to capture sharp results when working handheld, even in lower light conditions, indoors and in foliage for example.
The Optical Stabilisation OS function has two modes, with Mode 1 ideal for general everyday shooting, while Mode 2 is designed for panning. Mode 2 is ideal for tracking moving subjects such as vehicles, aircraftand birds. Tracking OS works by combining an acceleration sensor with Sigma’s Intelligent OS software to enable effective stabilisation except in the panning direction, for a smoother viewfinder image and easier overall subject tracking.
Advanced features for professional users
As one of Sigma’s Sports line lenses, the 60-600mm DG DN OS comes equipped with a range of professional-level features for professional use. in the first instance the lens is manufactured in Aizu in Japan, and has a very high quality construction, which combines robustness with precision and attention to detail.
A multi-material structure includes magnesium, CFRP1, and TSC2, which are optimally arranged to maximise their inherent characteristics. As a result, the lens barrel is lighter than Sigma’s existing 60-600mm , while retaining the same durability for a wide variety of environments.
To offer photographers speed and accuracy when focusing, the lens features Dual Action Zoom, where zooming in and out is possible either by rotating the zoom ring or simply by pushing or pulling the end of the lens, to adjust zoom quickly during fast-changing scenes.
Further lens controls include:
- Three AFL buttons can be customised to preferred functions via the camera menu. These are located in such as way as to be accessible in any orientation.
- Zoom Lock switch to stop zoom creep
- Tripod foot orientation adjustment
- Focus Mode switch
- Focus Limiter switch to limit the AF focus range for more precise results
- Two-mode Optical Stabiliser switch
- Custom Mode switch
An Arca Swiss-compatible magnesium alloy tripod socket is incorporated into the body for direct attachment onto your tripod plate. The leg can also be removed and replaced with optional interchangeable tripod sockets (available separately).
A high quality rubber gripped and lockable lens hood is included, which can be quickly removed and attached while using the push-pull zoom feature. The splash resistant design3includes the mount connection, manual focus ring, zoom ring, switches, switch panel and exterior connection helping to prevent dust and dirt from entering the lens. In addition the front element features a water and oil-repellent coating to make the element easier to clean when it gets wet or dirty.
