Sigma 20mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens for L-Mount Summary
Arriving as the widest focal width prime in the f/2 line-up, is this Sigma 20mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens for L-Mount. Designed for full frame mirrorless cameras allows it to be used with all three Alliance brands – including ,  as well as their own unique .
With an ultra wide angle 94.5° field of view this prime is perfectly suited to landscapes, architecture and interiors, street photography as well as environmental portraits. The 20mm f/2 DG DN has especially well controlled sagittal coma flare, making it an excellent choice for night photography, such as stars, Milky Way and aurora shots.
Sigma has utilised their new Contemporary design which features an all-metal exterior, internal metal parts and sleek functionality. The 20mm is extremely lightweight at 370 g, perfect to bring in your  for any situation without a weight penalty. Results are pleasingly high quality from the centre of the frame to the edges, thanks to a complex optical design with special elements and proprietary coatings. These reduce aberrations, control flare and ghosting and capture highly detailed, sharp images. One advantage the L-mount model offers, is the ability to choose linear or non-linear focus, for user controllable focus settings when required.
Sigma 20mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens for L-Mount in More Detail
At its time of launch, the 20mm f/2 DG DN for Leica L is the widest model in Sigma’s Contemporary line-up of f/2 . It joins the previous ,  and  to deliver a series of advanced prime options, now from ultra wide through to short telephoto.
Superb Contemporary Lens Optical Performance
The design incorporates 13 lens elements arranged in 11 groups, with special glass in the form of 1 FLD, 1 SLD and 3 aspherical elements. These enable the 20mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary to achieve the highest level of optical performance, even when wide open, from the centre of the image to the edges, keeping pace with even the highest resolution cameras like the .
The lens is based on the latest optical design technology found in . The design harnesses elements to suppress a range of optical aberrations, resulting in clear and sharp images even in the extreme corners. By focusing on the suppression of sagittal coma flare users can train this lens on astrophotography to capture amazing shots of the moon, stars, Milky Way and other night sky subjects.
Sigma has included their Super Multi-Layer Coating (SMC) and Nano Porous Coatings (NPC) to ensure minimal flare and ghosting even when shooting into bright light sources. This makes it much easier to photograph backlit subjects suited to this ultra wide angle lens and still achieve punchy, high contrast results.
Exceptional Build Quality In A Compact Form
An all-metal construction with precision-cut aluminium parts give the barrel a sleek, stylish finish, and provide high durability which improves the quality of the entire design. Metal materials are also used in internal structures that slide with the operation ring for added robustness. Users can expect a tactile, ergonomic feel that make the lens a pleasure to use.
The cover ring between the focus ring and the aperture ring has hairline processing that is also used for the rear cylinder of the prestigious Art line, functioning as a finger-hold when attaching or detaching the lens to the durable brass bayonet mount.
