Panasonic Lumix S 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens for L-Mount
has developed unique technology for the Panasonic Lumix S 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens for L-Mount, which is the world’s smallest and lightest full-frame macro lens at the time of launch. At 300g and just 73.6mm x 82mm it is considerably smaller than equivalent models for other systems, ensuring  users gain a lightweight short telephoto lens for a range of photography and videography subjects.
Despite being incredibly portable, the Lumix S 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens’ optical design delivers uncompromising image performance, thanks to the inclusion of three aspherical and other special lens elements. It also boasts highly effective AF, which is made possible by a newly developed high-speed dual phase linear motor focus system.
The OIS unit has been removed to achieve such a significant reduction in size and weight, relying on the extremely effective in-body stabilisation, which is found in most Panasonic and other L-mount cameras, from both  and .
What’s more, this macro lens offers a unified design with five existing , providing a streamlined workflow when switching lenses on a , or sharing  across various models.
With a versatile 100mm focal width and impressive minimum focus distance, this lens is versatile enough for close-up photography and videography of nature, insects and flowers, as well as food photography and portrait snapshots or landscapes.

Panasonic Lumix S 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens for L-Mount in More Detail
1:1 life sized reproduction from the world’s smallest macro lens
Capture true 1:1 magnification macro images while using a compact and highly portable lens, which is the world’s smallest and lightest macro lens for full-frame cameras. With measurements of just 73.6mm x 82mm and a weight of 300g this is one of the most portable options you can bring on any shoot.
It also offers a close 20.4cm minimum focus distance, ensuring you can maintain sufficient distance from your subject to leave them undisturbed, while also getting extremely close-up shots, which fill the frame.
Â
Innovative design packed with new technology
Panasonic has achieved such as compact design by developing unique technology for the Lumix S 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens. Three aspherical lens elements and a new double focus unit are utilised, in order to reduce its size.
For weight reduction the OIS (optical image stabilisation) unit has been removed, with stabilisation handled by effective IBIS, which is found in the majority of recent L-mount cameras.
Â
High-speed dual phase linear motor (DPLM)
A new proprietary technology was developed to both reduce the size and weight, as well as provide extremely effective AF, which offers 3x the output of conventional linear motors. The dual phase drive achieves highly precise focus as required by a macro lens, with quick and quiet AF suited to both stills and video capture. Additionally, the AF range can be optimised by using the Focus Limiter, increasing AF speed when capturing shots within a specific distance range.
Panasonic has considered every aspect of the lens design, even incorporating grey printing on the front, rather than white, in order to minimise reflections when capturing shots in close proximity to the subject.
Â
Uncompromising optics
Results are spectacular from an optical formula composed of 13 elements in 11 groups, which includes 3 aspherical, 2 UED (Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion) and 1 ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) element. These special optics are responsible for rendering high resolution detail, sharpness, reduced optical aberrations and colour fringing, ensuring you can achieve excellent results with beautiful bokeh from the 9-bladed diaphragm, and wide f/2.8 maximum aperture.
Â
Efficiency through a unified design
Thanks to a unified design across six L-mount lenses, users benefit from smooth lens changes when working on a gimbal, as well as the ability to share 67mm lens filters across all six models. A similar size, centre of balance, weight and filter size are shared with the  (355g),  (300g) and even the  (310g) wide angle lens, amongst others.
This makes rebalancing far quicker, with smoother changes when filming different subjects, or when using different focus widths. What’s more, the new 100mm macro lens has well suppressed focus breathing, ensuring focus shifts remain unfettered by visual distractions, even when capturing extremely small subjects.
Â
Robust build for outdoor creators
Comprehensive seals across each part of the lens provide dust and splash resistant properties to support outdoor content creation. Sealing also ensures you can operate in temperatures as low as -10ºC, with a lens which is tough enough to withstand extremely poor weather conditions.
Â
New Lumix high res shot mode capabilities
Lumix cameras such as the  and  offer 96 megapixel high res modes, which are supported by new features found in the Lumix S 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens:
- Long exposure noise reduction can be applied at shutter speeds of 8 seconds when shooting from a
- You can now capture handheld high res mode shots without the need for a tripod, and still achieve sharp 96MP images
