Laowa Nanomorph 35mm T2.4 1.5x S35 Anamorphic Lens Silver Flare PL/EF Summary
The Laowa Nanomorph S35 Prime 3 Lens Set – SILVER are manual, S35 sensor size compatible, 1.5x anamorphic cinema lenses. This is a set of 3 prime lenses containing the 27mm, 35mm, 50mm lenses as a kit bundle for Arri PL mount (Default) with Canon EF adapter, suitable for a wide range of professional cine platforms. This is the Silver set, creating neutral, lateral flares and streaks from point light sources. This natural colour of the flares reproduce the same colour of the light source, so white light will produce white flares, blue – blue, etc. As the streaks are neutral the colour can also be manipulated through colour grading and filters, or changing light source colours, offering more creative use of flares than fixed colour flaring lenses which limit options, and potential usefulness. The natural flaring of these “Silver” lenses are the probably most versatile and can be tailored to suit specific blue cold sci-fi scenes right through to warm scenes and footage.
The Anamorphic lenses also produce oval stretched bokeh for that classic widescreen film look. Superb quality, compact cine lenses, the Laowa Anamorphic series are full manual lenses, manual focus, with unified placement of industry standard 0.8 mod gear on both aperture and focus rings for follow focus setups, and take 77mm filters. Laowa’s patented design for uniform squeeze ratio throughout the focusing range.
Great price – this 3 lens set offers a saving of £548 over normal retail price (£1649 each, totalling £4947) if purchasing separately, and offer convenient storage in a dedicated hard case.
Laowa Nanomorph S35 Prime 3-Lens Bundle (27mm, 35mm, 50mm) (Silver) – VE273550PLEFS contains:
- Laowa Nanomorph 27mm T2.8 1.5X S35 Cine lens – in Arri PL mount (Default) + Canon EF – with (Natural Flare colour) – VE2728PLEFS
- Laowa Nanomorph 35mm T2.4 1.5X S35 Cine lens – in Arri PL mount (Default) + Canon EF – with (Natural Flare colour) – VE3524PLEFS
- Laowa Nanomorph 50mm T2.4 1.5X S35 Cine lens – in Arri PL mount (Default) + Canon EF – with (Natural Flare colour) – VE5024PLEFS
The Laowa Nanomorph series are designed for Super35 (and smaller sensor) cameras covering an image circle of 25.6x16mm. The anamorphic lens are called “Nano” as they are comparatively small and and light, particularly compared to their competition. “Morph” indicates to Anamorphic. The range currently include 3 different focal lengths – 27mm T2.8, 35mm T2.4, and 50mm T2.4. It is a front anamorphic design with a 1.5x constant squeeze ratio at ALL focusing points.
Other flare colour options available.
Three flares options are available – amber, blue & silver (please buy the relevant lens flare colour, or call us if not listed). Various flare colour are preferred for the use in different film genres and personal preferences of videographers and film-makers. The Silver / neutral colour option is a good general choice, as flare colour will copy the natural colour of the light sources, the can be tailored with coloured filters, or colour grading etc. Please enquire if you require other versions or individual lenses not listed on our site.
Other mount options available.
The Nanomorphs are available in various mounts: Canon EF / Arri PL, Canon R, Sony E, M43 (Micro Four Thirds)
Also DJI DL, Nikon Z, L mount and Fujifilm X mounts are available on Special Order.
For the EL/PL version, the lens is defaulted with a PL mount and supplied with an Canon EF bayonet.
For the Mirrorless mount versions (Sony E, Fuji X, Canon RF, Nikon Z, L Mount, MFT, DJI DL), users can purchase optional bayonets for changing the mount.
The lenses are also available with Blue or Amber (Orange) coloured flares, individually and in sets.
Available as sets, or individual lenses.

Anamorphic lenses consist of spherical elements and cylindrical elements. In the optics design of some cheaper or DIY anamorphic lenses, cylinders (anamorphic blocks) are added at the front and the spherical blocks are placed at the back for focusing. It is the simplest and cheaper way to design and make anamorphic lenses. However, the squeeze ratio would vary when changing focus which causes unwanted anamorphic mumps i.e. the face of actors gets swollen when focusing close.
For more professional anamorphic lenses, it requires higher optics design capability and it always costs enormously. The size of these lenses tends to be cumbersome and super heavy as well. In light of these, Laowa introduces its unique patented anamorphic design to guarantee uniform squeeze ratio and promising optical quality which solves the struggles of every anamorphic user.
The craftsmanship of the front element groups is of paramount importance as it acts as a complete single lens. It converges the virtual image while suppressing the aberration to the minimum level. The front group of elements requires meticulous optical design and exquisite craftsmanship as any tolerances will bring aberrations to the produced images. Keeping the lens small small is the other big challenge.
The Laowa Nanomorph series are light and compact, the Arri PL and Canon versions have a unified design, all with 80mm front diameter, and take 77mm filters. This makes them extremely useful for many setups, including handheld, on a gimbal, on a tripod, on a slider, on a camera rig, even on a drone. Not many anamorphic lenses can be lifted on drones due to weight.
The Laowa Nanomorph series offer a short focusing distance to aid close up shots, without altering the anamorphic squeeze ratio. The short close focusing distance also helps render stronger bokeh and create stronger sense of compression, and more oval bokeh.
- Nanomorph 27mm T2.8 1.5x S35 – 43cm / 16.9″
- Nanomorph 35mm T2.4 1.5x S35 – 60cm / 23.6″
- Nanomorph 50mm T2.4 1.5x S35 – 70cm / 27.5″
1.5x Anamorphic squeeze.
A 1.5x squeeze ratio is the perfect balance between the size and anamorphic intensity. With a 1.5x squeeze ratio, you will have a 2.66:1 on a 16:9 sensor after de-squeeze. There is a bit room for you to crop into 2.4:1 widescreen ratio. However, a 1.8x or 2x would become 3.2:1 and 3.5:1 which need more crop to 2.4:1 creating some wastage resolution.
A 1.5x squeeze ratio also renders oval bokeh which gives an artistic touch to the image. It also creates a blurry and creamy background that pops out the subject.
Flare Colour Options – Blue, Amber, Silver: Traditional blue flare is common in the market. It is suitable for sci-fi and cool vibes movies. But not every film matches the blue flares. Laowa is providing other options including amber and silver (neutral) option to users. Amber flare version is good for narrative and warm vibes but it is rarely found in the market especially at the affordable price point of these lenses. Compared to a more common blue flare, the silver version is a neutral coloured flare that provides more control over the flare colour. The silver version flare would change flare colour according to the light source. The flare would also be relatively subtler and less distracting. Cinematographers can now get the perfect look for different types of productions.
Unified gear position: The unified gear position allows users to switch lenses quickly and without readjustment on the focus gear.
77mm filter thread for screw-in filters on the PL / Canon EF mount versions. 77mm filters can be attached directly on the lens which film-makers can combo a handy setups. It is favourable when doing a Run-And-Gun shot or flying it with a drone. Front lens diameter is 80mm
Dual Scale: Both imperial and metric scale are printed on the lens body.
0.8 mod gear: Industry standard 0.8 mod gear is installed on both aperture and focus rings.
