Laowa 19mm f/2.8 Zero-D GFX Lens Summary
Arriving as their first , the Laowa 19mm f/2.8 Zero-D GFX Lens has been specifically designed for high resolving . Due to the 0.79x crop factor of Fujifilm’s medium format sensor design, the 19mm f/2.8 Zero-D GFX Lens provides an ultra wide 15mm full-frame equivalent focal width.
The prime lens captures a 110° field of view, which is ideal for a number of subjects including architectural, interiors, landscapes and cityscapes. Laowa’s zero distortion feature is particularly beneficial when shooting at this focal width, helping to reduce distortion from the straight lines, which are found on buildings and architectural scenes.
has designed the aperture with 5 aperture blades, which renders a dramatic 10-point sunstar when stopping down and shooting into light sources. The wide f/2.8 maximum aperture also helps to gather light in dimly lit situations, ideal for handheld shooting with the compact sized medium format system. A close minimum focusing distance of just 18cm is another advantage which comes into play particularly when capturing smaller subjects or to exaggerate perspectives and create dynamic ultra wide effects.
Laowa also included a focusing scale adjustment system, which allows you to calibrate the lens to your own camera and fine-tune the lens for astro photography and landscapes where focusing to infinity is often desirable.
Laowa 19mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens for Fujifilm GFX in More Detail
Advanced optical design for medium format sensors
Laowa has used an optical design, which features 12 elements arranged in 10 groups, including 2 Aspherical, 3 ED glass and 1 UHR glass element. These render high resolution with well controlled results, suitable for ultra-high resolving sensors.
Incredibly lightweight and portable
This 19mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens is considerably lighter than many existing GFX lenses, weighing only 546g and measuring 80mm long, closer in size to a full-frame lens. This is ideal for photographers who travel or want a lighter setup for all day shooting and exploring scenes while using the GFX system handheld.
Ultra wide 110° FOV
An ultra-wide 110° FOV is perfect for capturing subjects including landscape, interior, architecture and astrophotography, with a 15mm equivalent full-frame focal width. It is extremely helpful when shooting in tight spaces, enabling you to capture the entire scene more easily.
Fast aperture
This 19mm GFX lens has a fast f/2.8 aperture, allowing photographers to shoot in low-light environments without bumping up the ISO and retaining image quality. The wide aperture also provides the ability to render a shallower depth of field when desirable.
Zero distortion
Laowa’s Zero-Dline-up exhibits close-to-zero optical distortion, which is extremely useful for architecture and interior photographers, ensuring straight lines can be retained.
Close minimum focusing distance
The 19mm MF lens has impressive close-focusing capabilities of 18cm, allowing you to get extremely close to the subject, while being able to include background information in the scene.
Convenient 77mm filter thread
Despite the ultra wide angle of view, the lens features a common 77mm front filter thread to attach screw-on for control and creativity under different lighting conditions.
Dramatic 10-point sunstars
The 5-blade aperture produces a mesmerising 10-point Sunstar when stopping down the aperture.
Focusing scale adjustment system
This feature allows focus calibration against users’ own cameras. The actual infinity point would be right on the infinity mark, making it helpful in shooting in the field, especially in astrophotography.
