Fujifilm XF 50mm f/1.0 R WR Short Telephoto Prime Lens Summary
With over 80 years of experience in lens manufacture it’s no wonder that Fujifilm has created the fastest ever AF lens for their . The new Fujinon XF 50mm f/1.0 R WR prime lens boasts the brightest aperture AF lens currently available for any mirrorless system. The results achieved create stunningly soft and creamy bokeh with pin sharp focal planes typically associated with extremely high end portrait lenses of this kind. The optical design is composed of 12 elements in 9 groups, which includes 1 aspherical element and 2 ED elements. These help to reduce colour and spherical aberrations aside from at the very widest f/1 aperture where the clever design leaves spherical aberrations to enhance soft bokeh effects.
At f/1.2 the resolution is equivalent to the highly acclaimed  and by f/2 vignetting is reduced to the equivalent of the . This is a considerable optical achievement for Fujifilm and users can expect outstanding results throughout the range up to the maximum f/16.
The phase detect system works seamlessly at all apertures including with Eye and Face detect and manual focussing has been improved with 8x manual focus resolution.
Despite the ultra fast aperture the short telephoto lens remains reasonably compact at 103mm long, balancing well on X system bodies. The 845g. weight is solid and reassuring in the hand, serving as a reminder of the quality the XF 50mm f/1.0 R WR is able to render. The lens is dust and weather sealed in 11 places and works down to -10 degrees C for outdoor use throughout the seasons.
