Despite its point-and-shoot form factor, the GFX 100RF features the same second-generation 102MP CMOS II Sensor and X-Processor 5 found in the , which provides exceptional resolution, colour accuracy, and dynamic range.

A rangefinder-style EVF is integrated into the newly designed compact body, combining  classic styling with immersive functionality using familiar dials and levers. Notable design features include a new dedicated aspect ratio dial with nine selectable formats, a new surround view setting via the Q button, and a fixed 35mm medium format lens, offering a 28mm full-frame equivalent field of view.
